Outside micrometers can measure dimensions typically ranging from 0 to 25 millimeters, though specialized designs exist for larger dimensions.

The measurement process involves inserting the tips of the arms into the cavity and adjusting them until contact is made with the internal walls. Similar to the outside micrometer, the reading is taken from the scale and thimble, ensuring precise internal measurements.


3. Depth Micrometer


The depth micrometer is uniquely designed to measure the depth of holes, grooves, and recesses. It features a base and a vertical rod that extends downward to the bottom of the hole being measured. The base rests on the surface surrounding the hole, while a measuring screw or rod is lowered to gauge depth accurately. The precision of depth micrometers allows for accurate measurements in applications where depth is critical, such as machining and assembling processes.
